On June 23rd 2012 we are holding our next fundraising mini-festival to raise funds for Kartong 2013!

It will take place at the Brasenose Arms, Cropredy, OX17 1PW from midday till late with a great line-up of acts which we’ll be announcing shortly.

Dombondir Festival, just over the border in the Casamance region of South Senegal is taking place the weekend of Jan 27th 2012. See the line-up on the Dombondir Festival tab above!

There’ll be craft stalls, teas, coffees and cakes plus delicious food too and of course the pub will be open all day!

We are putting on a Senegalese Sabar drumming workshop on the Sunday with Modou Diouf in Banbury as well if you feel like improving your skills or having a go for the first time – so why not come and make a weekend of it! Local canal side camping available from Friday 1st July for a donation.

Last year’s event raised about £1,000 and we’re hoping to raise even more in 2011. Last year’s tickets were £5 on the gate – this year to be confirmed but it won’t be much more than that. There will also be stalls, food, teas and cakes and more!!

Sean Taylor is a singer songwriter who lives in Kilburn, north London. He has just released an album called ‘Walk With Me’ which is produced by Trevor Hutchinson (The Waterboys). The response to the album has been incredible. Over the last Sean has played the main Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and Celtic Connections as well as hundreds of other shows in the UK & Europe.

Jamatone is a Roots, Reality, Reggae, & Dancehall based, Outernational UK based band. Promoting unification near and far. Coming with something new and fresh, with real music. They played a wonderful set at African Linx last year and got everyone on their feet dancing!

Billy Salisbury, a.k.a. “The Undercover Hippy”, is a singer songwriter and producer who brings together elements of folk, hip-hop, and reggae amongst other influences. The result is a selection of extremely catchy, politically charged and thought provoking songs, packed with imagery and performed with the voice of a man twice his size. His music is difficult to define, but has been likened to that of Jack Johnson, The John Butler Trio, Gomez and Xavier Rudd among others. Think Ben Harper meets Gentleman and they play acoustic hip-hop around a camp fire.

Last year’s event raised £1,000 for Kartong Festival and this year we’re hoping to raise £1,500 to help cover the costs of Kartong Festival 2012.

The first confirmed artist is the wonderful Sean Taylor, a singer songwriter who lives in Kilburn, north London. He has just released an album called ‘Walk With Me’ which is produced by Trevor Hutchinson (The Waterboys). The response to the album has been incredible and features BJ Cole (Elton John, Sting, REM) on pedal steel, Vyvienne Long (Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan) on cello, Justin Carroll (Van Morrison), on Hammond Organ, Dave Hingerty (The Frames, Josh Ritter) on drums and Michael Buckley (Joss Stone, Mary Coughlan) on sax.

Sean has played the main Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and Celtic Connections as well as hundreds of other shows in the UK & Europe and he has played support slots for John Fogerty, the Neville Brothers, George Benson, Tom Paxton, Band of Horses, Martha Tilston, Hayseed Dixie, Kelly Joe Phelps, Dick Gaughan and Martin Simpson.  He has had airplay on BBC Radio 3 (Late Junction) as well as the Bob Harris show (BBC Radio 2) with a live session that aired on the 2nd Jan 2011.
